AAUW NEMCO Branch Programs 2020-2021

***We have planned both in person and virtual activities this year for each month due to the Covid-19 Pandemic

September 16, Wednesday, 7pm. NEMCO General Membership Virtual Meeting. This meeting will take place on Zoom. We will get together to connect, chat and learn about programs for the year and member continuing interest groups. 

October 6, Tuesday, 11am. Visit Pennsbury Manor Estate of William Penn in Morrisville, PA. This visit will depend on the garden being open. We plan to socially distance, we will have a picnic after if possible. Virtual alternative: We will meet on Zoom to see the video of Pennsbury Manor and discuss historic sites in our area. 

October 11, Sunday. International Day of the Girl. We plan to contribute to local groups who support girls’ monthly needs. We will send information on what items are needed and we will gather supplies and monetary donations. We can pick up your donations. 

October is Get Out the Vote Month. We will partner with Fort Washington League of Women Voters and AAUW PA to distribute mail in ballots and information about candidates. We will do activities virtually, by mail or in person, as safety permits. 

November 3, Tuesday. Election Day!

November 17, Tuesday, 11am. A Virtual Tour of the Museum of the American Revolution.

We will discuss live or on ZOOM the role of women in the American Revolutionary War with speaker Mary Washington. She is a member of DAR and has been a Revolutionary War & Colonial re-enactor. 

December 9, Wednesday 12 noon. Holiday Celebration at a venue to be announced, or virtually on Zoom. 

January 19, Tuesday, 7pm. Our first ‘Tuesday Night at the Movies‘. Members will be invited to watch a movie on Network Television (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, etc.) during the week before. We will discuss the movie at a member’s home or on Zoom. 

February 9, Tuesday. Celebrate Black History Month with a speaker who will present about “Equality, 1619 and Black Lives Matter; Helping Understand the Movement and the Underlying Need for Change”, at Penn State Abington or virtually on Zoom.

March 16, Tuesday, 4pm. Trip around the World—One Family’s Journey of Learning at Pleasantville United Church of Christ. Dinner to follow. 

Virtual alternative: Visit to Bharatiya Temple, a multi deity Hindu and Jian Temple. 

April 7, Wednesday, 6pm. Lunafest Fundraiser for Chestnut Hill Hospital Womens’ Health, sponsored by Luna Bars. Short films, by women about women, will be shown. Cost is $25 free appetizers, a glass of wine or soda and Luna Bars, are provides. Venue TBD, this event has been at The Ambler Theater in the past. 

April, Date TBA, Saturday 8am to 1pm. Philadelphia Girls Enjoying Science (PAGES). The goal of this mini conference is to increase girls’ interest in Math and Science. This event is held at Chestnut Hill College. Contact: http:///www.PAGESprogram.org

April 20, Tuesday, 11am. Visit to Langhorne Carpet Factory Tour 201 W. Lincoln Hwy, Penndel, PA 19047 with lunch to follow locally. 

Virtual alternative: A You Tube video of the history the Glencairn Museum, School and New Church as well as the Bryn Athyn Cathedral. The Glencairn Museum’s mission is to educate visitors about the history of religion around the world. We will follow with a discussion on Zoom following the video. 

May 18, Tuesday, 11am. Visit to Awbrey Arboretum Agricultural Village and Philly Goat Project. This is a Scholar’s Award Fundraiser for a deserving female student. The cost will be $10 per person. This is an outdoor experience, we can socially distance if necessary. We will plan to have lunch locally or bring a homemade picnic. Rain date 

June 9, Wednesday, 12 noon. Our Annual Picnic and Spring General Meeting including the swearing in of new officers at a member’s home. Rain date TBA. This event will take place on Zoom if there is still the need to be virtual. 

June 29, Tuesday, 11am. Visit and tour of Peace Valley Lavender Farm in Doylestown, PA. This trip will coincide with the blooming of the lavender, it is an outdoor visit. There is a gift shop. We will plan to lunch nearby.
