October 11, Thursday. The UN declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world. It’s a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere. October 21, Sunday, 8 AM. Laurel House 5 K Run/Walk, Upper Gwynedd Park, Sumneytown Pike, North Wales. Branch members can help at our PR table, direct traffic, or participate in run/walk itself.
October 27, Saturday, 8 AM-1PM. PAGES (Philadelphia Area Girls Enjoying Science) at Chestnut Hill College.. Volunteer to empower young ladies through your service that day.
November 3, Saturday, 11 AM-2 PM. AAUW-PA Eastern District Meeting at Delaware Valley University featuring the Honorable Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy of Montgomery Township District Court. Judge Duffy will share with us her mission to save lives ravished by the opioid addiction crisis in her township and throughout Pennsylvania. AAUW Doylestown and Lansdale will co-host the meeting. All are welcome and must register.
November 27, Tuesday, 4 PM. Montgomery County Historical Society exhibit “Made in Montco” exploring locally made goods from food to furniture to fine art since the establishment of the county in 1784. Following our tour, join your NEMCO friends for an early dinner at a convenient restaurant.
December 19, Wednesday, AM time TBD. NEMCO Holiday Celebration at the Pearl S. Buck House. Tour the house with a dedicated docent during the “Festival of Trees,” then enjoy a lovely Chinese buffet lunch in the Cultural Room. Friends and family are welcome!
January 10, Thursday at noon. NEMCO fund raiser. Under the guidance of Giant’s resident chef, we will prepare a delicious full course meal we can enjoy together on site.
February 19, Tuesday, 7pm. NEMCO will host Dr. Valeria Harvell speaking on African American Women. The sociopolitical activism of African American women from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement has been frequently overlooked in the study of our nation’s history. This program will help fill the void by presenting highlights of the lives and accomplishments of both major and lesser-known female figures. Special attention will be focused on the ways in which racism and sexism impacted their lives and shaped their individual and collective struggles.
March 5, Tuesday, 4 PM. Africa – including Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, & Zimbabwe. See photos and hear real stories about the beautiful people and animals of Africa.
March 20, Wednesday, 8:30-11:15 AM. NEMCO Bird Watching at Fort Washington State Park. First day of Spring, we will meet at 8:30 AM at the Hawk Platform at FWSP. If you have binoculars or bird books, bring them. We also have a lunch bunch at noon, so that we can enjoy lunch together afterwards. Hopefully, we will see the migratory birds heading North again. For sure we will see the usual suspects that feed at the Hawk platform on a regular basis.
April 10, Wednesday, 1:30 PM. Journey of an Artist–Susanne Okamoto, AWS, will be NEMCOs guest speaker. Susanne grew up in Glenside, Pennsylvania. She studied at the University of Bridgeport and Moore College of Art and has been an exhibiting artist since 1984. Susanne was a member and director of the Muse Gallery and a founding member of Artforms, both galleries are in Philadelphia. She will share with us her topics of interest as she moved through her career. She has worked primarily in two media, Watercolors and Oils. Susanne and her husband, who passed in November 2016, were partners in her career; her paintings were framed in beautiful handmade wood frames; works of art in their own right. Examples will be on display for your enjoyment. Susanne now resides at Foulkeways and is currently teaching an art course to interested residents.
April 13, Saturday, 8 AM-1 PM. PAGES at Chestnut Hill College.

September 18, Wednesday, 6 PM. NEMCO OPENING DINNER instead of the May Dinner. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Moylan Mills, Integrative Arts, Penn State Abington.
